On October 7, 2020, the large sawmill Labe Wood in Štětí (CZ) was opened by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš after several months of trial operation.
It is a joint project between ECO-INVESTMENT, a.s., Holzindustrie Maresch GmbH, Mondi Štětí a.s. and Unitimber d.o.o. Labe Wood is currently the most modern sawmill in Central and Eastern Europe.
PM&C under the direction of Werner Wirnsberger-Brandl provided comprehensive consulting services for the project and was directly responsible to the owners. The scope of the project included the award of technical contracts, budgeting, cost estimation and scheduling as well as contractor management. PM&C accompanied the project from planning to commissioning.
At full capacity, Labe Wood will process 1 mn m³ of domestic wood annually, produce 600,000 m³ of lumber and employ 160 people. The investment volume was EUR 115 mn, the construction time only 18 months.
300 companies and 2,000 people were involved in the construction of the large sawmill, which is located on an area of 21 ha. Construction work began in December 2018 – trial operations started in spring 2020.
